Sniip vs pay.com.au: The real cost breakdown on Amex
pay.com.au compared themselves to Sniip but skipped the Amex maths. Sniip gives cheaper points on Amex than every pay.com.au plan, with no monthly fee.
Pay.com.au recently published a page comparing themselves to Sniip. The article covered Visa and Mastercard in detail. On American Express, the card that earns the most points, it was a little quiet. So we’ve finished the Sniip vs pay.com.au comparison for completeness.
Every figure below comes from each company’s public pricing page, confirmed on 13 October 2026. Rates exclude GST unless stated.
The short version
- On Amex, Sniip gives you cheaper points than every pay.com.au plan, at every payment size.
- There are no monthly fees. pay.com.au’s best rates cost up to $165 a month.
- You get 1 bonus airline point per $10, issued the same day, straight into Qantas Frequent Flyer or Virgin Australia Business Flyer.
- Pay personal and business bills in one app. No ABN needed.
- Bank account payments are free.
Paying with Amex? Sniip gives you cheaper points. Every time.
If you pay bills with an Amex, you’re usually doing it for the points. So the number that matters is what each point costs you, once processing fees, monthly plan fees and points earned are all taken into consideration.
On that measure, Sniip beats every pay.com.au plan at every payment size.
| Business bill paid | Sniip No monthly fee |
pay.com.au Free $0/mth |
pay.com.au Regular $85/mth |
pay.com.au Premium $165/mth |

Cost per airline point equivalent, in cents. Example: one business bill a month, paid with an Amex earning 2.25 Membership Rewards points per $1. Includes the processing fee (ex GST), monthly plan fee, card points earned on the fee, and Sniip bonus points of 1 Virgin Australia Business Flyer point per $10. Assumes 2 Membership Rewards points = 1 airline point. pay.com.au PayRewards excluded, as it carries an additional fee.
Why Sniip wins on Amex
1. A lower Amex rate than pay.com.au – both “Free” and “Regular” Plans
Both companies set business Amex rates per transaction, based on payment size. Sniip’s rate is lower than pay.com.au’s Free and Regular plans at every size.
| Payment size | Sniip No monthly fee |
pay.com.au Free $0/mth |
pay.com.au Regular $85/mth |
pay.com.au Premium $165/mth |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under $100,000 | 1.99% | 2.10% | 2.05% | 1.90% |

| Over $1,000,000 | 1.75% | 1.95% | 1.90% | 1.75% |
2. No subscription to unlock it
pay.com.au Premium’s headline rate sits 0.05% to 0.10% under ours below $1 million. To get it, you pay $165 a month, or $1,980 a year. On a $10,000 bill, that subscription adds another 1.65% on top of the processing fee.
3. Bonus points pay.com.au doesn’t give you
Sniip adds 1 airline point for every $10 you pay, on top of your Amex points. pay.com.au adds nothing unless you buy into PayRewards, from an extra 1% per payment. That’s why Sniip is cheaper per point even where Premium’s headline rate is lower.
4. Personal Amex from 1.29%
Paying a personal bill with a personal Amex? Sniip charges 1.17% excluding GST (1.29% inc GST) on eligible personal bills. pay.com.au doesn’t do personal payments at all.
5. Official American Express partner
Sniip is an official Amex partner. Pay almost any bill with Amex, including billers that don’t normally take it, like the ATO, council rates and utilities. You can even pay a BSB and account number.
What the comparison left out
Personal and business bills, all in one app
pay.com.au is built for business, and you need an ABN to sign up. Sniip handles both. Your BAS and your council rates. Your supplier invoice and your kid’s school fees.
That matters more than usual right now. The ATO stops accepting credit cards directly after 30 June November 2027, and that hits individuals as much as businesses. But also, business owners have personal bills to pay too – why should you be restricted from paying those with your Amex too? With Sniip you can still pay all your personal bills by card, and earn points on them. No ABN, no worries.
Free bank account payments
Paying from your bank account through Sniip costs nothing. On pay.com.au, bank transfers carry a 1% to 1.80% fee, bundled with their PayRewards program.
Your best rate, without a subscription
Sniip has no monthly fees, no account keeping fees and no plans to choose between. pay.com.au’s lowest rates sit behind an $85 or $165 monthly subscription.
Points that land where you actually use them
pay.com.au points out they have 17 transfer partners to our two. Fair. Our two are the ones most Australians already hold. Points earned through Sniip go straight into your Qantas Frequent Flyer or Virgin Australia Business Flyer account, with no in-house currency to convert first. PayRewards Points sit with pay.com.au until you convert them. Under their terms, they expire after 18 months without activity, if your account closes, or if PayRewards ends, which happens immediately if pay.com.au stops providing its services. Sniip points land in your Qantas Frequent Flyer or Virgin Australia Business Flyer account the same day we pay your bill.
What’s important to note is that many of our users earn American Express Membership Rewards, which can be used to convert into all the major airline loyalty programs across the globe.
Triple dip your points
Earn your card’s own rewards, earn bonus points through Sniip, then pay off that card through PayTo Plus+ in the Sniip app and earn again.
More ways to pay
Alongside Visa, Mastercard and Amex, Sniip accepts debit cards (0.65%), Australian prepaid cards, Qantas Pay, Crypto.com, WeChat Pay, Alipay, Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Pay almost any bill
Scan a BPAY code, forward the bill from your inbox, or take a photo of any bill even if BPAY isn’t offered. That’s right – you can even pay a bill that only offers BSB and account number with your Amex.
Trusted by 200,000+ Australians since 2014
Sniip is an official American Express partner and an authorised Bill Payment Service Provider, Tier 1 PCI DSS compliant. They counted businesses. We counted Aussies.
So which one should you use?
Credit where it’s due: if you only pay with Visa or Mastercard, pay.com.au’s card rate is lower (1.20% on Free against our 1.36%).
If you pay with Amex, Sniip gives you cheaper points than any pay.com.au plan, with no subscription. Add personal bills, free bank payments and no need to upsell you on another type of loyalty program.
Comparison pages are only useful when they compare everything. Now this one does.
