Getting started
Sniip is the easy way to pay your bills, all in one app. Pay with your preferred payment method, debit card, credit card, bank transfer, digital wallet, PayTo Plus+, you name it, no matter what payment methods your biller accepts directly. Scan a bill, pay it instantly, schedule it for later, or set up a recurring payment, all in a few taps.
Yes. There’s no download fee, no subscription and no account fee. The only cost is the processing fee on the payment method you choose, see our pricing section for the full breakdown.
Sniip runs on the latest versions of iOS and Android. For the smoothest experience, keep your app and phone software up to date.
If your biller has a BPAY Biller Code, or accepts payment via BSB and Account Number, you can almost certainly pay it with Sniip, think energy, rent, insurance, school fees, rates, ATO, and more. A small number of industries are restricted, see “Why does my bill say Biller Under Review or Blocked Biller?” in Paying a bill for the full list. Note, if your biller provides bank details for payment rather than a BPAY Biller Code, they’ll also need an ABN, shown on the invoice alongside the bank details.
Download Sniip from the App Store or Google Play, tap sign up, and choose to continue with Facebook, Apple, Google, or your email. You’ll be asked to verify a mobile number, this is required by our banking partners.
Yes, your account name needs to match your government-issued ID. You can still set a preferred name for how you’re addressed in the app, under Account > Account Information.
Tap the menu in the top left, select ‘Payment Methods’, then tap the ‘+’ icon to add a card, bank account or your PayTo Plus+ account. You can add more than one and switch between them at any time.
Paying a bill
Tap the blue ‘+’ on the home screen, select Scan, then choose the bill type (Sniip or BPAY). Line up the code in the guide with good lighting, and Sniip will add the bill for you to review and pay.
Yes, adjust the amount before paying. A small number of billers (like car registration, fines, and licence renewals) require the full amount in one payment, Sniip will let you know if that applies.
5pm AEST, Monday to Friday, for all payment methods. Processing time after that depends on how you’re paying:
- BPAY: processed the next business day after the cut-off.
- BSB and Account Number: takes up to two business days to be processed.
Depends on how you’re paying:
- Bank Account to a BPAY biller: processed 2 business days after you pay, provided payment is made within business hours.
- Card payments (BPAY): processed the next business day after the 5pm AEST cut-off, though your biller’s own processing time can add a delay.
- PayTo Plus+: also reaches us the next business day, the same processing time as card payments.
Yes. Open your bill, tap Schedule, then choose Create Recurring Payment, or Create Instalment Plan to split it into payments leading up to the due date. Set your amount and frequency either way. This is Sniip paying your bill with your own money on a schedule you set, it’s not a Buy Now, Pay Later product.
If you want BNPL, you can use a BNPL provider through your digital wallet as a separate payment method, like Zip Pay or Afterpay Plus through Sniip.
Yes, every payment gets a receipt in the Receipts tab, showing the fee, GST, total paid, and Sniip’s ABN. You can email it to yourself straight from the app.
Double check your card details are current. Since only the last 4 digits are visible for security, you may need to remove the card under Payment Methods and re-add it. If you’re still unsure why it failed, contact your card provider or bank directly, they can see account details and history that Sniip doesn’t have access to.
Only before it’s processed to your biller. Contact the Sniip Support Squad as soon as possible and we’ll do what we can. Once a payment has gone through, you’ll need to sort any refund directly with your biller.
Sniip can’t issue refunds directly, since we’re the one paying your biller on your behalf. Refunds are handled by the biller, contact them directly.
Yes. Choose Apple Pay or Google Wallet in Sniip, then select Afterpay Plus or Zip Pay inside your digital wallet. Sniip pays your biller in full, and your provider splits that amount into instalments. You manage and repay those instalments in your Afterpay or Zip app, not in Sniip.
No overall limit on card payments, though your bank or biller may set their own minimum or maximum. PayTo Plus+ has a $1,000 to $10,000 limit per transaction.
Check you’ve got good lighting, you’re holding the phone steady, and you’ve selected the right bill type (Sniip or BPAY) before scanning. Still stuck? Contact the Sniip Support Squad.
Press and hold the bill, then tap delete when the option appears.
- Biller Under Review: we’re checking the biller sits in a permitted industry, and confirming all the details provided meet our compliance requirements to process the payment. Usually done within one business day.
- Blocked Biller: the biller sits in a restricted sector, including remittance services, charities and not-for-profits, payday lenders, gambling and casinos, goods dealers, foreign exchange, securities and derivatives, managed investment schemes, international business operations, international students or travel products, hiring and leasing, and banking and financial institutions.
If you think your biller should be assessed differently, contact the Sniip Support Squad and we’ll review the request.
American Express categorises Sniip as a third party payment provider, and doesn’t allow payments to other third party providers, like DEFT, using an Amex card. Use a bank account, debit card, or Visa/Mastercard instead.

No. If your biller doesn’t charge its own fee for a BPAY payment, the Sniip processing fee is the only fee you’ll pay. Paying from a Bank Account is completely free.
Your card statement shows the total amount (bill plus fee) as one transaction. Your itemised receipt in the app breaks down the fee, GST, and total separately.
Yes, on eligible reward cards you earn points on the full transaction, the bill amount and the fee.
No. Sniip’s merchant category code (7399) isn’t excluded from card reward programs the way direct government billers often are, so you earn full points paying the ATO through Sniip.
Using Amex
American Express sets which industries qualify for the personal rate, generally things like utilities, insurance, rent, school fees, fines and registration. Bills outside these categories are processed at the business rate. See the full list of personal rate industries on our Amex page, or contact the Sniip Support Squad if you’re not sure where yours sits.
This usually comes up with billers who process BPAY through DEFT, like some real estate or Strata/Body Corporate billers. If that’s the case, check whether your biller also provides their bank details (BSB and Account Number), that option is often accepted with Amex even when the BPAY option isn’t.
That’s a temporary authorisation to confirm your card, it’s refunded in full within 48 hours.
No. Sniip is an authorised BPAY Payer Institution Member, your payment clears into a trust account first, then Sniip pays your biller. It’s processed as a normal purchase, not a cash advance.
You get some of the best processing rates in market on Amex business payments, and it’s the fastest way to earn full points on a bill. Our Amex x Sniip lead, Jennifer, is also on hand if you’ve got questions, call (07) 3268 7710.
ATO payments, including super, are always charged at the business rate on any Amex, personal or business.
It comes down to the purpose of the payment and the industry your biller sits in, as set by our agreement with American Express. All processing fees are shown clearly before you confirm payment, so you’ll always know what you’re being charged before you pay.
Not at the moment, Amex payments through Sniip need to go via your card added directly in your Sniip Wallet, rather than through Apple Pay or Google Pay. To add it, go to Payment Methods in the menu and add your Amex there.
Loyalty & points
Sniip partners with Qantas Frequent Flyer and Virgin Australia Business Flyer, so you can earn points on your bill payments on top of whatever your card already earns. See more about loyalty.
Go to Loyalty in the side menu, tap Add Membership, select Qantas Frequent Flyer, and enter your membership details. Set it as your default Rewards Program to start earning automatically.
1 Qantas Point per $10 on eligible card payments, up to 2,000 points per calendar month. Paying via PayTo Plus+ earns 1 Qantas Point per $1, with no monthly cap.
It’s the ABN or ACN you used to sign up for Virgin Australia Business Flyer, not your personal Velocity number. Your regular Velocity number won’t work here, since this program is for businesses.
Go to Loyalty in the side menu, tap Add Membership, select Virgin Australia Business Flyer, and enter the linked ABN. Set it as your default Rewards Program to earn Velocity Points automatically on every bill paid through Sniip.
1 Velocity Point for every $10 paid via Sniip, on top of whatever your card itself earns on both the bill amount and the processing fee. If you are paying with PayTo Plus+, you’ll earn 1 point per $1 transacted.
If you’ve just signed up, allow a few hours for validation before trying again. Still not working? Contact the Sniip Support Squad.
In the Loyalty section of the app, and in your Points Activity Statement in the relevant Rewards Portal (Qantas Frequent Flyer or Virgin Australia Business Flyer).
Allow up to 7 days for points to appear. Still missing after that? Email the Sniip Support Squad with your account details and the payment date.
Points Booster is an optional, per-payment upgrade, not a subscription, that boosts how many points you earn on a bill. It comes in four tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold (our most popular), and Platinum, and works whether you’re paying by credit card or PayTo Plus+. Points are credited straight to whichever program you’ve set as default, Qantas Frequent Flyer or Virgin Australia Business Flyer.
Go to the menu, tap Rewards, enter your code, then tap Apply.
Bank payments & PayTo Plus+
Bank Account is our original free option, 0% fee, but it doesn’t earn any points. PayTo Plus+ is a paid option (1.98% fee) that connects via PayID or BSB and Account Number, and earns 1 point per $1 on your selected Rewards Program, uncapped. PayTo Plus+ payments are authorised within 10 minutes; transaction limits are $1,000 to $10,000.
After adding your account, check for a small deposit starting with “SN” in your bank statement. Copy the 5 characters after “SN”, enter them in the Sniip app, and tap Verify Now.
Check your banking app directly, since some desktop banking portals cut off part of the reference. The code will be visible in the full statement description.
This usually means a detail was entered incorrectly. Double check your account details, and if it’s still not working, contact the Sniip Support Squad.
Go to Payments, select the payment, tap Edit Payment (or Edit Recurring Payment), then follow the prompts to choose a new method and confirm.
Account verification (KYC)
Yes. Identity verification (KYC) is now mandatory for all Sniip users, as part of our obligations as a regulated Bill Payment Service Provider and BPAY member.
It’s a regulatory requirement, aimed at addressing anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing risk, and protecting you from fraud and misuse of your account.
A current Australian driver licence or international passport, showing your full name, date of birth, photo, and licence or passport number clearly.
Usually reviewed within 1 business day of submission.
Check whether we’ve emailed you asking for more information first. If it’s been longer than expected, contact the Sniip Support Squad and we’ll help you sort it.
Yes, Sniip is an Australian based business that allows users to make payments to Australian BPAY and non-BPAY billers (Australian Business Number – ABN, BSB and Account details are required).
Users can download the Sniip app overseas if they have a registered Australian mobile and plan to pay Australian billers. The Sniip app unfortunately won’t allow you to pay billers outside of Australia, for now.
Security & privacy
Yes. Sniip is certified Tier 1 PCI DSS compliant, the same security standard Australian banks are held to, and all payment data is encrypted end to end. More on paying securely with Sniip.
Your card data is encrypted and securely stored, and only shared with verified third-party payment gateways at the moment of payment.
Only what’s needed with the biller you’re paying, for reconciliation purposes. We don’t share your information with anyone else. See our privacy policy for the full detail.
Your card details stay secure. Just download Sniip on another device and log back in to keep going.
Remove it under Payment Methods (tap the menu, then Payment Methods, then the trash icon next to the card) and add your new card when it arrives.
