How it works
How to Buy a Car with American Express Using Sniip
Issued to a business
The invoice must be issued to a business, not a person. Personal car purchases (not issued to an ABN) are strictly blocked with American Express — you may use a Visa or Mastercard.
An outright purchase
The car (or boat, tractor, etc) must be an outright purchase from a business. We can’t facilitate finance payouts or loan repayments.
Tiered processing fee
The processing fee for the transaction is charged at our tiered rates. You can use any business or personal Amex. See pricing
Tiered rates that fall as you scale
Sniip offers tiered processing rates for American Express business and corporate cards. The higher your payment, the lower your effective rate after tax.
| Single payment amount | Rate (inc GST) | Rate (+GST) | After tax rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| $0 to $99,999 | 2.19% | 1.99% | 1.49% |
| $100,000 to $299,999 | 2.15% | 1.95% | 1.46% |
| $300,000 to $499,999 | 2.09% | 1.90% | 1.43% |
| $500,000 to $999,999 | 2.04% | 1.85% | 1.39% |
| $1,000,000+ | 1.93% | 1.75% | 1.31% |

How to pay your car invoice using American Express?
Pay your way, you decide.
Find out more about SniipQuestions, answered.
Yes. As long as the invoice is issued to a business (not a person) for an outright purchase, you can pay with any American Express card — including Platinum — through Sniip.
Most dealerships don’t take Amex directly. Sniip lets you pay the dealer’s invoice with your Amex card even when they only accept bank transfer or BPAY, so you still earn full points.
There are two types of points, and they work differently.
Your card’s own rewards: your card is charged the full amount that goes through Sniip, which includes the processing fee. You earn your card’s rewards on that full amount, at your card’s standard earn rate.
Points earned through Sniip: these are credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer or Velocity account and are calculated on the payment amount only, so the processing fee does not earn points through Sniip.
Using your Amex for car buying can come with some nice perks. Depending on your card, you could earn rewards points, enjoy purchase protection, or even extend your warranty on the car. Each Amex card has different benefits, so it’s worth checking what your specific card offers before making a purchase.
Snap or upload the car invoice in the Sniip app, choose your Amex card as the payment method, and Sniip pays the dealership on your behalf — so you earn points on a purchase that wouldn’t normally go on a card.
Sniip’s processing fee is separate from any GST or finance considerations on your purchase. For advice on claiming GST or comparing interest rates on a new car, speak with your accountant or financier.
