Verification is now mandatory. Here is what it means for your bills
From 1 July 2026 every Sniip user needs to be verified before they can pay a bill. It takes about two minutes, it happens once, and it keeps your points earning exactly as they were.
Verification is not new to Sniip, but until now it only kicked in at certain thresholds. From 1 July it applies to everyone, on every account, before the first payment goes through.
The short version
- All Sniip users must complete verification before paying a bill.
- It takes around two minutes and you only ever do it once.
- Your points, your cards and your saved billers are unchanged. .
What has actually changed
Sniip is a regulated payments business, which means we sit under Australia’s anti money laundering and counter terrorism financing obligations. Those obligations require us to confirm that the person paying a bill is who they say they are.
Previously that check was triggered by payment volume. Now it happens up front for every account. The upside is that it clears the way permanently, so you never hit an unexpected block halfway through paying a rates notice.
What you will need
One current, government issued identity document. Most people use a driver licence because it is the quickest path.
- Australian driver licence, front and back
- Australian passport
- Medicare card paired with a second document
Worth knowing. Your name in the app needs to match the name on your document exactly. If you have changed your name recently, update your profile first.
How long it takes
Most verifications clear instantly. A small number need a manual review, which we turn around within one business day.
The goal was to make a compliance requirement feel like thirty seconds of admin, not a wall.

Does it affect my points
No. Verification sits before the payment, not inside it. Your earn rate, your linked Qantas Frequent Flyer or Velocity account and any Points Booster upgrade you apply at checkout all behave exactly as they did before.
If something goes wrong
The most common cause is a blurry photo or a document that has expired. Retake the photo in good light with the whole document in frame. If it still will not clear, our support team can pick it up from there.
The information in this article is general in nature and does not take your objectives, financial situation or needs into account. Fees, conditions and eligibility criteria apply. Points are credited to your nominated Qantas Frequent Flyer or Velocity account.
