We are an official partner of American Express. Undoubtedly, your payment security is our top priority.

We have never had a security breach in our 8+ years of operations and have quarterly vulnerability scans to try and penetrate our systems. Our systems have never been penetrated.

We’re proud to have achieved and maintain Tier 1 Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliance.

To explain, this is the same standard that Australian Banks must comply with. Therefore, you can rest assured that your payments are protected by the highest safety and encryption standards.

FAQ

As part of our contract with American Express, we are required to determine business vs personal based on the purpose of the payment and the type of industry your biller falls under.

American Express restricts the personal rate to the following industry categories:

  • Tax payments (excluding ATO payments)
  • Telecommunications services
  • Cable and other pay television services
  • Utilities
  • Electric, gas, water, and sanitary
  • Insurance sales, underwriting, and premiums
  • Real estate agents and managers
  • Rentals
  • Parking lots and garages
  • Dance halls, studios, and schools
  • Membership clubs (sports, recreation, athletic), country clubs, and private golf courses
  • Doctors and physicians – not elsewhere classified
  • Hospitals
  • Medical services and health practitioners – not elsewhere classified
  • Elementary and secondary schools
  • Colleges, universities, professional schools, and junior colleges
  • Correspondence schools
  • Business and secretarial schools
  • Trade and vocational schools
  • Schools and educational services – not elsewhere classified
  • Child care services
  • Court costs, including alimony and child support
  • Fines
  • Government Services – not elsewhere classified

If your bill/invoice falls outside of these categories, we can still process your bill, however, we are required by American Express to process the payment at our tiered business rates.

We appreciate the payment may be a personal payment to you, however we are bound by the category list for personal payments as defined by American Express.

We are actively working with American Express to broaden these categories.

When you pay a bill via Sniip, you authorise Sniip to receive funds from your nominated payment method. The bill amount will be held by us on trust for the specific purpose of paying your bill. Then, Sniip will then process your bill payment to your biller on the day those funds are received.
Both you and Sniip acknowledge and agree that any and all funds which Sniip may receive for the purpose of making payments of your bills are held by Sniip on trust for you for that purpose and no other. In detail, please refer to our full terms and conditions for more information.
Unfortunately, we are restricted from allowing payments to certain billers using credit facilities, as determined by BPAY and our banking partners.
To explain, this means you aren’t able to pay credit facilities with a credit card or a debit card, but you can pay from a bank account. In fact, Paying from a bank account is completely free in the Sniip app, and this way you are able to keep using Sniip to store and organise all your bills and invoices.
If you have any questions, please email Sniip Support Squad or call (07) 3268 7710 for more information.
Sniip users benefit from the best processing fees in market, you can read more about our tiered pricing, here.

Plus, it’s the easiest and quickest way to pay your bill (and earn full points).
You can explore our Amex x Sniip hub, here or speak with our Amex x Sniip representative Jennifer by calling (07) 3268 7710.
Great question! We’ve built a points calculator just for you, superstar! You can explore the points calculator, here.
Sniip was a consumer app, offering a consumer rate. In time, there was growing demand for business payments with Sniip and to continue to offer this service, we were required to offer a business rate.

We’ve worked really hard to keep our rate as low as possible to accommodate business payments and the rate is reflective of what we’re being charged to process the payment – not a margin increase for Sniip!

However, the good news is, our after tax rate on all our business tiers are below 1.5%!
Absolutely! Specifically, you earn full points (even at the ATO) on the transaction amount and the processing fee.
All rates are clearly displayed before you make a payment and you can always clarify with us before you process the payment.
In detail, the processing fee for personal payments using a personal card is 1.5%, excluding American Express personal cards. The rate for personal American Express cards (excluding payments to the ATO) is 1.29%.

You can now pay bills that don’t offer BPAY with Sniip – it’s been our #1 requested feature and it’s now live!

If your biller doesn’t accept your credit card directly, you can now pay to their BSB & Account Number, even if BPAY is not available.

You can learn how to pay BSB and Account Numbers here.

That’s right, there’s a great article, ‘How to earn full points at the ATO with Sniip’.

If you discovered Sniip there or through our other media appearances (Sunrise, Today Show, etc), welcome aboard! You’re going to love Sniip.

We accept all Amex cards, allowing you to earn full points on your bills.

Sniip has no transaction limit. However, there are minimum and maximum payment amounts determined by each biller.
In this instance, if you are making a large payment and are getting a declined message even though you believe you have the funds available to make the payment, we would suggest contacting your financial institution.
If your financial institution identifies a large transaction that seems out of the ordinary, it may be stopped or flagged as fraudulent. Subsequently, once you contact your bank and explain that you are making a transaction via Sniip they should enable the transaction. If you have any questions or wish to discuss your transaction, please contact the Sniip Support Squad or call (07) 3268 7710.

We are required by American Express to process any payments (on an Amex) to the ATO (including superannuation) at our tiered business rates.

The good news is, this represents better value than paying the ATO direct/using BPAY via your bank account as you earn full points on your payment through Sniip.

All rates are clearly shown before you make the payment and you can always clarify with us before you process the payment.
Great question! To explain, it comes down to the payment you’re making and the card you’re using.
Making a defined personal payment, on a personal card? Then, you’ll be charged the personal rate. In addition, payments to the ATO (including superannuation) are charged at the business rate when using any American Express card.
Are you making a business payment, on a business/corporate card? Then, you’ll be charged the applicable business tier.
If you’re flagged as making a business payment on a personal card, you may be asked to supply a copy of your invoice and your transaction will be reviewed.
The good news is, all rates are clearly shown before you make the payment and you can always clarify with us before you process the payment.
Have a question? No worries! Please call (07) 3268 7710 or email customercare@sniip.com
Up until October 15, 2022, Sniip was a consumer app with a consumer rate for American Express payments.
As you can appreciate, the rate we were charging was well below existing rates for business payments made using an American Express.
In summary, American Express identified that business payments were being made through our consumer app. Therefore, we had the option of discontinuing our service for business users, or adopting the market processing rate for Amex partners facilitating business payments.
Notwithstanding that, we remain committed to being the most competitive in our pricing and will ensure we are adhering to that commitment.
We (and our users) know we have the best product and we hope you’ll continue to enjoy the many benefit of using Sniip too!
Absolutely! To clarify, the processing fee for all Visa/Mastercards is 1.5%.
We’re working on it as you read this – launching 2023!
