New Feature Alert: Nicknames and Enables
New Feature Alert: Nicknames and reminders
Everybody hold on, we’re back today with two new features! We have introduced bill nicknames and enables to keep making your bill payments easy!
1. Bill nicknames for emails
Gone are the days of searching the reference number to work out which bill is which. You can now distinguish bills from the same biller by adding a biller nickname.
Simply add the bill to the Sniip app, and tap on the biller name for example, ‘Sunshine Coast Council’.
Next, add your bill description, for example, ‘My house’ or, ‘1 Example St, Brisbane’.
Now, you’ll see a handy nickname below the biller name to differentiate which bill is which when we email you reminders, schedule payment confirmations, receipts, etc.
You’ll see the nickname in the subject line so it’s all easy breezy to navigate.
2. New biller alerts
Ever added a bill to the Sniip app that wasn’t enabled? No worries! From time-to-time we’ll need to enable payment for certain billers.
You’ll now receive one simple push notification and email to let you know when your biller is enabled. You can then pop into the Sniip app and pay your now bill with ease. Simple!
If there’s a feature you’d like to see in the Sniip app? No worries! Let us know at customercare@sniip.com, we’d love to hear from you.
Six tips for a financially savvy Easter
Six tips for a financially savvy Easter
1. Make a checklist
Let’s be honest, the cost of buying Easter eggs can add up quickly.
Then, add into the mix the fact that the entire event often creeps up on even the best of us. Next minute, it’s 9pm the night before and you’re at the fuel station paying $20 for the Easter dregs that will be 80% off tomorrow. We feel you friend, we feel you!
That’s why we’re going to suggest making a list and checking it twice (even though it’s Easter and not Christmas!). Write out everyone you need to buy for and what you’re going to buy them. Then, carve out the time in your diary to hit up the shops quickly and cross it off the list – here’s a handy printable checklist from Mrs Organised. That way you (hopefully) won’t get caught out and miss anyone!
2. Consider Easter egg alternatives
- Bake some Easter treats at home!
- Whip up a batch of hot cross buns, check out this recipe or this vegan/ gluten free one here
- Short for time? Try these simple chocolate crackles with an easy Easter twist
- Want to skip the public holiday surcharges? Make Easter breakfast at home with these fun bunny pancakes
- Skip the individual gifts and take this choc-orange hot cross bun cheesecake to your friends/ family house
- Wow the crowds at your Easter do with this easier-than-it-looks hot cross bun trifle
3. Low-cost ideas to entertain the kids this long weekend
From foam cups to jelly beans, pasta and rocks – we’ve all got one of the items on this list and that’s a quick, cheap craft activity sorted for the kids (or your inner-child) this Easter.
- Jelly bean Easter necklaces
- Toilet paper roll bunny
- Foam cup bunnies
- Pasta Easter eggs
- Easy Easter rocks
4. Set the ‘Out of Office’ and put your bills on autopilot
Unless you’re working over the Easter break, you’ll likely be turning on the Out of Office and checking out from more than your email responsibilities.
Can we suggest grabbing that pile of bills on your countertop/fridge now, scanning them all into the Sniip app (or importing them from your email). You can quickly and easily schedule, create an instalment plan or set yourself a reminder to pay the bill later.
That way, you’ll encounter no nasty surprises or overdue bills when you check back into reality post Easter.
5. Secure your home
On the note of bills, that home and contents insurance coverage isn’t going to get you much mileage if you don’t secure your home.
Opportunistic thieves love a long weekend as much as we do. A quick double-check of the doors and windows before you head away for the long weekend might save you a lot more money than your time cost you to check this Easter.
Even if you’re in the backyard, you might just quickly double back and lock the front door. Or maybe it’s that you ensure your car keys aren’t securely stored in your car’s ignition. You know, all that good stuff!
6. Organise your Easter get-together for the week later
We couldn’t wrap this up without including this super-savvy Easter savings tip for you.
Much like Christmas, all things Easter will be less than half the price in the days that follow the event. If it’s a family/ friends gathering and you know you’ll be doing an Easter exchange, see if you can’t move it to the week following Easter.
The chocolates will be cheaper, the parks, restaurants, cafes and accommodation less busy and the memories and time spent together will likely be just as meaningful.
Happy Easter from the team here at Sniip!
What happens when Apple Pay partners with Sniip? More cards unlocked for bills
Apple Pay partners with Sniip
BREAKING: Mobile bill payments platform, Sniip today brings its customers Apple Pay, a safer, more secure and private way to pay their bills using the power of iPhone to protect every transaction.
Customers simply select Apple Pay in the Sniip app to make a secure payment to over 60,000 billers in the BPAY network. Every Apple Pay payment is secure because it is authenticated with Face ID, Touch ID, or device passcode, as well as a one-time unique dynamic security code. As a result of the partnership with Sniip, customers can use Apple Pay on an iPhone to make bill payments that are faster and more convenient as they no longer need to repeatedly type in personal and payment card information.
“We’re excited to offer Apple Pay as a new payment option in the Sniip app, reinforcing our commitment to providing the ultimate convenience in bill payments for our 40,000-strong customer base. Sniip remains focused on delivering a fast, seamless, and consumer-centric approach to bill payments and adding such a widely-used mobile wallet such as Apple Pay is a big step forward,” said Damien Vasta, CEO of Sniip.
Security and privacy are at the core of Apple Pay. When customers use a credit or debit card with Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored in the Secure Element, an industry-standard, certified chip designed to store the payment information safely on the device.
Apple Pay is easy to set up. On iPhone, simply open the Wallet app, tap +, and follow the steps to add your credit or debit cards. Once a customer adds a card to iPhone, they can start using Apple Pay on that device right away.

Fast Five: Our most commonly asked questions this week February 2021
Our most frequently asked questions in February 2021
1. When is my bill paid?
We pay your bill as soon as we receive your funds. Generally speaking, we receive your funds the next business day.
For example, if you pay your bill via Sniip on a Tuesday, we’ll receive your funds on Wednesday and your bill will be paid on the same day.
If you use a Visa or Mastercard and pay by midnight AEDT, we’ll receive your funds the next business day. Your bill payment is made the same day that we receive the funds via BPAY.
Please note: If you pay on a Friday, we won’t receive the funds until Monday. That’s why it’s important to add your due dates to the app and we’ll automatically schedule when your bill is paid, so that you meet your due date.
2. Do you pay my bill in full four instalment plans and then I pay Sniip back?
Great question! With Sniip instalments, we pay your bill off in instalments to the biller as we receive the money from you. We don’t hold any funds in the Sniip app, nor do we provide credit.
Most billers are okay with receiving your bill in instalments as long as they’ve received all the funds by the due date. We calculate this for you as part of your instalment plan.
Sniip instalment plans are not currently a buy now, pay later offering (but watch this space).
You can find out more about setting up an instalment plan, here.
3. Your app was recommended by Amex with a rate of 1.5%. What’s the benefit of using Sniip for Amex transactions?
Great question! With Sniip instalments, we pay your bill off in instalments to the biller as we receive the money from you. We don’t hold any funds in the Sniip app, nor do we provide credit.
Most billers are okay with receiving your bill in instalments as long as they’ve received all the funds by the due date. We calculate this for you as part of your instalment plan.

You can find out more about setting up an instalment plan, here.
4. Is there any other way to pay a bill than scanning the BPAY Biller Code and Reference Number.
Absolutely! Firstly, you can enter the BPAY Biller Code and Reference numbers manually.
Alternatively, you can ‘share’ or import the bill attachment to the Sniip app from your email.
Or, our favourite option: If you have a Gmail or Microsoft account, you can sign up for auto bill import and have your bills automatically sent to the Sniip app for payment.
5. What are your processing fees?
The processing fee for Amex, Visa and Mastercard is 1.5%. International cards attract a 3% processing fee.
Plus, there’s a free option. You can use a debit card for free in the Sniip app.
That covers all the processing fees in the Sniip app.
Any other fees noted are from your biller. When you scan the BPAY Biller Code on your bill, all the rates are the same.
If you’re scanning a Sniip QR code, the surcharges are defined by the billers and should be the same as paying through their website.
These processing fees include GST which you can claim back at tax time as a GST registered business.
It’s Official: Pay the ATO and earn full points
How To Earn Full Credit Card Points on Bills
Plus, earn full points even when your biller doesn’t accept credit cards at all!
Earning credit card reward points at the Australian Tax Office and other government agencies has long been a challenge for savvy frequent flyers, with the banks gradually reducing the points earned on those transactions.
Add to that the credit card surcharges that many institutions charge, and you’ll quickly see why it’s just often not worth pursuing the points when paying off those type of bills.
But one new solution to this problem is going through a third-party payment provider. These platforms usually settle your bills via BPAY, offering full reward points when you pay them for the service via credit card in exchange for a small fee.
That’s where Sniip comes in! Sniip is a Brisbane-based fintech company that offers stellar rates when paying bills with an American Express card, which are often the highest points-earning cards on the market.
What is Sniip?
Sniip is a payment platform that allows you to pay personal and business expenses with any type of credit card, all through one easy app. In 2021, the fintech partnered with Amex to offer a flat 1.5% fee for its services, (now 1.29% as of 1 March, 2023).
You’ll always earn full American Express Points when using Sniip to pay bills!
There are other similar payment processors on the market such as pay.com.au, B2BPay and RewardPay. However, those are tailored to small businesses – Sniip the best and most competitive option for both individuals and businesses.
Being transparent, and ensuring individuals and businesses understand how Sniip would benefit them is a top priority. If you’d like to learn more about how Sniip could benefit you or your business, email customercare@sniippay.com.au to chat with us!
How does Sniip work?
Sniip processes your transaction as a two-legged transaction:
- You pay money in the Sniip Trust Account
- Sniip pays your bill on your behalf
When you use a rewards credit card you’ll earn points on the first leg of the transaction – even if your payment method isn’t accepted by your biller directly, and even if you’d earn reduced points / no points if you pay the biller directly (for example, government billers).
Sniip will make payments via BPAY on the second leg of the transaction and this utilises the BPAY Scheme.
This process allows you to earn full points on all of your bills which is a big reason why people love Sniip so much!
In summary: You pay Sniip with your credit card to earn full points, and Sniip then pays your biller via BPay to settle your amount owing.
How do I use Sniip?
Here are the steps to start using Sniip.
- Download the Sniip App from Google Play or the Apple App Store
- Register for an account or login
- Under ‘Wallet’, ensure you have a valid payment method set up
- Tap on the blue ‘+’ icon to add a new bill. You can scan it, add the details manually or sync your email account
- Enter the payment amount and the due date, then tap ‘Add Bill’
- Confirm all details are correct. If needed, you can set up a payment reminder through the app and add attachments.
- Tap ‘Pay’ to pay now or ‘Schedule’ to schedule the payment for later, either as a one-off sum or broken into instalments.
- Once the funds are cleared from your credit card, Sniip will make the BPay payment to your biller, which takes 1-2 business days for credit cards.
Sniip is a mobile app you can use to import from email or scan your paper bills to make payments in under one minute.
- Scan and pay any bill with a BPAY Code, and earn FULL POINTS.
- Pay bills and other expenses with any payment method (even when credit cards aren’t usually accepted by the biller).
Why would Sniip benefit me?
Sniip is the best way to earn even more reward points on transactions where you wouldn’t normally earn anything!
Typically, American Express reduces its points earn on ATO and other government-related transactions down to a low 0.5 or 1 point per A$1 — that’s a big drop when some cards usually earn up to 2.25 points per dollar!
Rather than pay the ATO’s 1.45% Amex fee and earn a reduced number of points, Sniip’s proposition is to pay them at a rate starting at 1.93% instead and earn the full potential of your American Express card.
Comparison of Sniip’s fees to other payment providers
Let’s say you’re an individual that owes a tax bill of $5,000 to the ATO, and you want to maximise the points on your American Express Platinum Charge card or your Qantas Premier Platinum Mastercard.
Here are some of the scenarios that could occur, taking into account payment fees and the value of points earned according to our proprietary points calculator.
Analysis of the results: Sniip vs ATO
Qantas Premier Platinum
With the Qantas Premier Platinum, you’d earn 0 points directly at the ATO (since the card doesn’t award points on those transactions), and 5,109 Qantas Points through Sniip in exchange for a 1.75% (+GST) fee.
That’s just okay, it’s certainly nothing to write home about since the points earn rate on that card is not exceptionally high.
American Express Platinum Card
With the American Express Platinum Card, you could earn a reduced 5,000 points if paying the ATO directly, for a 1.45% fee. But pay just a bit more at Sniip, and you’ll unlock your card’s full earning potential.
That’s 2.25 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent, which more than doubles your haul to 11,496 points for a A$5,000 transaction.
Summing up
The true value of Sniip lies in its new 2021 partnership with American Express that sees it offer a reduced 1.5%* fee for Amex transactions. While equal to the Visa/Mastercard fee, using the right American Express card could really open up your points-earning options.
Add to that most credit cards offer up to 55 days interest-free on regular payments, it makes sense to funnel some of your bigger bills through a service like Sniip to maximise rewards and boost your cashflow.
To get started, visit the Sniip website and be prepared to download the app to Android or iPhone. If you’d like to learn more about how Sniip is the best option for your business and personal payments, email customercare@sniippay.com.au and we’d be happy to chat!
Visit article: https://www.pointhacks.com.au/earning-points-with-sniip/
*As of March 1, 2023, the rate for personal Amex cards is 1.29%, and all ATO payments with an Amex are charged at the business tiered rates.

When you want full points: Sniip partners with American Express
Brisbane-based fintech unlocks BPAY bill payments for American Express card members
Mobile bill payments platform, Sniip has today partnered with American Express to enable Australian American Express card members to easily pay bills.
The move unlocks BPAY’s 60,000-strong network of billers that can now be paid via American Express through Sniip.
“Until now, customers have often not been given the option to pay their household bills using an American Express card, as many businesses have not made it available for their customers. Through our new partnership with American Express, card members now have the ease and convenience of using their American Express card through the Sniip app, at the same cost as other card providers,” said Damien Vasta, CEO of Sniip.
Robert Tedesco, Vice President of American Express Global Merchant Services said, “Sniip has a customer-centric approach to the bill payment experience. Our partnership with Sniip allows American Express card members to use their card to pay any biller that accepts payments through BPAY and still have the benefit of accruing all the same great rewards points.”
Sniip’s customer first approach allows time-poor consumers to pay and manage any bill on their mobile. The app revolutionises bill management, a task that is still performed manually 74% of the time.
Users can scan the BPAY Biller Code or import a bill from their email using the Sniip app and pay in less than 10 seconds, using any debit or credit card.
The partnership is expected to help Sniip rapidly scale its business, building on its strong foundation of more than 30,000 customers already using its platform which has processed more than $80 million worth of bill payments.
“As part of the agreement, Sniip will be promoted via the Amex Offers Program to all Australian American Express card members. This is a great way to offer the benefits of the Sniip app to a large network of people, all of whom pay bills, with an added incentive for first-time users” said Sniip Chief Executive Damien Vasta.
The partnership follows Sniip’s recent enablement as a BPAY Payer Institution Member (PIM) earlier this year, having been sponsored into the BPAY scheme by e-payments giant, Indue Ltd.

New feature alert: Instalment plans
Instalment Payment Plans
With the Sniip app, you are able to pay bills partially in instalments before the due date. This helps to manage your expenses and ease the burden of large lump-sum payments.
Create an Instalment Plan
Add your bill to the Sniip app by scanning any BPAY Biller Code or by importing your bill from email.
Select ‘Schedule’, then ‘Create instalment plan’.
Enter the date you’d like the instalments to start.
Tap the frequency you’d like them to come out (weekly, monthly, quarterly etc). Your instalment plan schedule will be put together for you to ensure you’re paid in full when the bill is due. Done!
Please note, this isn’t a ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ offering (watch this space) – rather, this feature gives you the flexibility to pay off your bill in instalments, without missing the due date.
